Configuring Your Web Browser

Internet Explorer 3.0 (Mac edition)

1. Open Internet Explorer, then click on the Edit menu at the top and select Preferences in the options that drop down.

 

2. On the left side under Web Browser, click on the Web Content option. The items that should be checked in your window should match the window below. Then click the Home/Search option under Web Browser on the left side of the window.

 

3. Next to Address:, make sure www.ispname.xxx is entered and a check mark next to Automatically go to this Home Page when opening a new window is optional. Click on the Java option under Web Browser on the left side of the window.

 

4. A check mark should be next to Enable Java, all other settings should be the same as the window below. Click on the Security option under Web Browser on the left side of the window.

 

5. This window allows you to choose when you get an alert before sending personal information over the internet, or when accessing secure and insecure websites. It is recommended that you set your window like the one below. Click on the Advanced option under Web Browser on the left side of the window.

 

6. Here you can clear out any webpages your computer has stored in memory. Clearing Cache is usefull to free up space on your computer's harddrive. It is also usefull if you have a frequently visited webpage that does not display right anymore or has dead links. Clearing out your cache will allow Internet Explorer to download a new version of the webpage if it exists.

Click on the Proxies option under Network on the left side of the window. If there is no Proxies option under Network, click the arrow just to the left of Network and the options will drop down beneath it.

 

7. A check should be next to Use Web Proxy for all. On the left side of the window, scroll down until you find the E-mail heading. Click on the arrow to the left of E-mail if you do not see the options beneath it, then select General.

 

8. The following information should be entered:

  • Real Name: whatever you type here will appear in all the from fields of your outgoing e-mails
  • E-mail address: typed in the form login_name@tm.net where you replace login_name with your Mercury Network login name
  • SMTP host: mail.ispname.xxx
  • Account ID: the first part of your e-mail address that appears before the "@" sign
  • Mail host: mail.ispname.xxx
  • a dot next to POP3
  • Enter your e-mail password beneath that

After all desired changes have been made, click OK.
