Configuring Your Web Browser

Netscape 3.0 (Mac edition)

1. Open Netscape and click on the Options menu at the top. From there, select General Preferences in the menu that drops down.

2. Under the subheading On Startup Launch, you may choose which Netscape components are loaded when you first open Netscape. Under Browser Starts With, a dot should be next to Home Page Location and www.ispname.xxx should be entered beside it. After all desired changes have been made, click OK.

3. Back in your browser's main window, click on the Options menu at the top again and select Network Preferences.

4. The window should start with the Cache tab at the top. Here you can clear out any webpages your computer has stored in memory. Clearing Disk and Memory Cache is usefull to free up space on your computer's harddrive. It is also usefull if you have a frequently visited webpage that does not display right anymore or has dead links. Clearing out your cache will allow Netscape to download a new version of the webpage if it exists.

Click the Connections tab at the top.

5. The number of files your computer can download with Netscape at one time is determined by the Number of Connections. The window below is set to 4 connections, or it allows four different files to be downloaded at one time. For regular modem dial-up, it is recommended that you keep whatever your window has for the number of connections as the greater the number, the slower each file will download.

Click the Languages tab at the top.

6. In order to view most of today's webpages, you must have Enable Java and Enabled JavaScript check marked. Click the Protocols tab at the top.

7. Here you may choose when your computer alerts you when sending personal information over the Internet. Leave a check out of Send Email Address as Anonymous FTP Password and click the Proxies tab at the top.

8. A dot should be next to No Proxies. After all necessary changes have been made, click OK.
