Configuring Your Web Browser

Netscape 4.0 (Mac edition)

1. Open Netscape. When the browser window finishes loading, click the Edit menu at the top and select Preferences.

 

2. You should have the Navigator option highlighted under Category on the left side. If not, click on Navigtor and you should get the window below. Make sure a dot is next to Home page and www.ispname.xxx is entered next to Home page location:. Click on the arrow next to Composer on the left side under Category to expand the options under Composer.

 

3. Click on Composer to highlight it. You may type whatever you want for the Author name. Click on the Publish option under Composer on the left side of the window.

 

4. Make sure X's are by Maintain links and Keep images with page. Type pages.tm.net next to Publish to (FTP or HTTP): near the bottom of the window. Under Category, click on the arrow next to Advanced to expand the options beneath it.

 

5. Once Advanced is highlighted, make sure X's are by the following options:

  • Automatically load images and other data types
  • Enable Java
  • Enable JavaScript
  • Enable style sheets

Any other settings are optional. Under Category, click the Cache option under Advanced.

 

6. Here you can clear out any webpages your computer has stored in memory. Clearing Disk Cache is usefull to free up space on your computer's harddrive. It is also usefull if you have a frequently visited webpage that does not display right anymore or has dead links. Clearing out your cache will allow Netscape to download a new version of the webpage if it exists.

Now click the Proxies option under Advanced on the left side.

 

7. A dot should be next to Direct Connection to the Internet. After all necessary changes have been made, click OK.
