Configuring Your Web Browser

Netscape 4.7 (Mac edition)

1. Open Netscape. Click on the Edit menu at the top, then click on Preferences.

2. On the left side, click on Appearance. On the right, you may put a check mark next to any of the Netcape components that you want to start up when you open Netscape. If you just want to surf the Internet, a check mark next to Navigator will be sufficient. Everything else on this screen is optional too.

3. Click on the Navigator option on the left. Make sure a dot is next to Home page. Next to Home page location, type in www.ispname.xxx.

4. Expand the options under Mail & Newsgroups on the left side. Click on Identity.

  • Your name: anything you want
  • E-mail address: login_name@tm.net
  • Reply-to address: you can type any e-mail address you would like. It is usefull if you have a second e-mail address you would like people to use when they reply to your e-mail message.

5. Click on Mail Servers on the left side.
Under Incoming Mail Servers: mail.ispname.xxx should be listed. You may have others as well, but make sure mail.ispname.xxx is the default mail server by clicking on it and then clicking the Set as Default button.

Under Outgoing Mail Server:
Outgoing mail (SMTP) server should be mail.ispname.xxx.
Outgoing mail server user name should be the first part of your e-mail address, before the "@" symbol.
A dot should be next to Never, under Use Secure Socket Layer (SSL) or TLS for outgoing messages.

Make sure mail.ispname.xxx is highlighted under Incoming mail servers, then click the Edit button on the right.

6. The window below should pop up. Under the General tab, Server Name should be mail.ispname.xxx. Server Type should have POP selected from the drop-down menu. User Name should be your Mercury Network login name.
Putting a check mark next to Remember password will allow you to check your e-mail without having to enter your password each time.
A check mark next to Check for mail every "X" minutes is optional.

7. Click on the POP tab at the top. A check mark next to Leave messages on server will allow you to download your e-mail with Netscape Messenger and then still be able to view you mail using Mercury Webmail. Click OK.
