Configuring Your Web Browser

Netscape 3.0

1. Open Netscape 3.0. When the browser window has finished loading, click on the Options menu at the top, then select General Preferences.

2. The window should come start at the Appearance tab at the top. Under the subheading Startup, you may choose which Netscape components you want to start up when you open Netscape. Beneath that next to Browser Starts With, make sure a dot is next to Home Page Location and www.ispname.xxx is entered beneath that. After all desired changes have been made, click OK.

3. Back in your browser window, click on the Options menu again and select Network Preferences.

4. The window should start with the Cache tab at the top. Here you can clear out any webpages your computer has stored in memory. Clearing Disk and Memory Cache is usefull to free up space on your computer's harddrive. It is also usefull if you have a frequently visited webpage that does not display right anymore or has dead links. Clearing out your cache will allow Netscape to download a new version of the webpage if it exists.

Click the Connections tab at the top.

5. The number of files your computer can download with Netscape at one time is determined by the Number of Connections. The window below is set to 4 connections, or it allows four different files to be downloaded at one time. For regular modem dial-up, it is recommended that you keep whatever your window has for the number of connections as the greater the number, the slower each file will download.

Click the Proxies tab at the top.

6. A dot should be next to No Proxies. Click the Protocols tab at the top.

7. Here you may choose when your computer alerts you when sending personal information over the Internet. Leave a check out of Send Email Address as Anonymous FTP Password and click the Languages tab at the top.

8. In order to view most of today's webpages, you must have Enable Java and Enabled JavaScript check marked. After all necessary changes have been made, click OK.
