Configuring Your E-mail Program

Reconfiguring Netscape Mail 4.7

1. Open Netscape by Clicking the Start button, then clicking on Programs and selecting the Netscape Communicator folder. In the menu that slides out, click on Navigator

 

2. In the Netscape window, click on Edit at the top, then click on Preferences.

 

3. Under the Category section, click the plus-sign next to Mail & Newsgroups. Then click on Identity in the options that drop down.
All of your outgoing e-mails will be from whatever is typed under Your Name.
Make sure that your Mercury Network e-mail address is typed correctly in the e-mail address field. It must be your login_name@tm.net with no spaces and all lower-case letters. You may type any e-mail address for the Reply address. Click on the Mail Servers option under Mail & Newsgroups.

 

4. Under Incoming Mail Servers, mail.ispname.xxx should be listed. If you have more than one Incoming Mail Server, make sure mail.ispname.xxx has (default) next to it. If not, highlight mail.ispname.xxx and click the Set as Default button on the right-hand side.

Under Outgoing Mail Server, your outgoing mail (SMTP) server should be mail.ispname.xxx also. Next, highlight mail.ispname.xxx at the top under Incoming Mail Servers, and then click Edit.

 

5. Server Name should be mail.ispname.xxx.
Server Type should be POP3.
User Name should be your Mercury Network login name.
Puting a check next to Remember password will allow you to check for new mail without retyping your password every time.
Click OK at the bottom when all necessary changes have been made.

 

6. Back in the Preferences window, click on Newsgroup Server under Mail and Newsgroups. The Mercury Network newsgroup server should be news.ispname.xxx (Default). If Default in paranthesis is not listed next to news.ispname.xxx, then highlight news.ispname.xxx and click the Set as Default button on the right-hand side.

Next, click on the Edit button after news.ispname.xxx (Default) is highlighted.

 

7. Name should be news.ispname.xxx.
Port# should be 119.
Security should be NOT ENCRYPTED. After all necessary changes are made, click OK at the bottom of the window. Then click OK in the Preferences window.
