Configuring Remote Access

1. Click on the Apple menu in the upper-left corner of the screen. Then select Control Panels and then select Remote Access in the menu that slides out.

2. Make sure a dot is next to Registered User.

  • Name: Your Mercury Network login name should be typed in the form login_name@tm.net.
  • Password: Your Mercury Network password with no spaces or capital letters.
  • A check-mark next to Save password is optional
  • Number: Your local access number. If you do not have one, just call our 24-hour tech support at 1-888-866-4638. They only need the area code and first three digits of your home phone number or the hotel or motel number you are at.

Now click the Options button in the lower part of the window.

3. Under the Redialing tab at the top:

  • Redial: Redial main number only
  • Redial 5 times
  • Time between retries: 5 seconds

Now click on the Connection tab at the top.

4. Make sure the only check is by Flash icon in menu bar while connected. Now click the Protocol tab at the top.

5. The following things should be check-marked or selected:

  • Use protocol: PPP
  • Connect automatically when starting TCP/IP applications
  • Allow error correction and compression in modem
  • Use TCP header compression

After all necessary changes have been made, click OK.

The next step is to check the settings of the TCP/IP control Panel.
